PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Three people, including two children, lost their lives in a devastating crash involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer Monday afternoon in Pike County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers reported that the collision occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 32 and Coal Dock Road in Union Township. Preliminary findings indicate that a Chevrolet Traverse, operated by 30-year-old Hannah Howard, was traveling northbound on Coal Dock Road when it entered the intersection and failed to yield the right-of-way to traffic on State Route 32. The SUV was subsequently struck by a tractor-trailer hauling an empty logging trailer. Authorities confirmed that Hannah Howard and two juvenile passengers, identified as 9-year-old Gunner Howard and 5-year-old Peyton Howard, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. A fourth occupant of the SUV, a 4-year-old child, survived the collision and was airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash. Emergency personnel responded quickly and remained at the scene for several hours while investigators documented evidence, reconstructed the crash, and coordinated roadway cleanup efforts. Portions of the intersection were impacted during the investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that the investigation remains ongoing. Troopers continue to examine roadway conditions, right-of-way factors, and other circumstances that may have contributed to the collision. No additional information has been released by authorities at this time. The Pike County community continues to mourn the tragic loss of Hannah Howard, Gunner Howard, and Peyton Howard. Family members, friends, and community residents have been left grieving as they come to terms with the devastating incident. Funeral and memorial service arrangements, if any, have not yet been publicly announced. Further information may be released by family members or authorized representatives at a later date.
